GYMNOPEDIE

GYMNOPEDIE is the amusing dance that adolescent boys do to the music of ambivalent sexuality, ambient naivete, and amorphous desire. A lonely teenager trapped at a truck stop in backwoods Arkansas in the late 50's, Ben watches American Bandstand and the Mickey Mouse Club and has fallen futilely in love with Mouseketeer Annette Funicello. Meanwhile, Ben's only real human contact is with Danny, his best buddy at school, which grows into much, much more than mere friendship. Here's how the unconscious love of pals blossoms into passion, and how, in the aftermath of our first time, love can sneak up on us yet again.
